Happy New Year 2007!

The year 2006 has been pretty eventful year for me I guess, with the biggest ‘event’ being the transition from full time studying to full time working. :-/ I had an enjoyable time while my parents and sis were around, unfortunately my bro stayed back to take care of my grandma.
Usual writeups would still be limited till I finish filling up the countless pages of PR application forms..

Anyway, have a good year ahead! :)

Server issues

Mr webhost did some serious upgrades recently, so some stuff went bonkers or were missing a few days ago, but I believe most of the issues have been resolved. The extreme slowness of the connection from here to Malaysia due to the link breakage didn’t help much either. :(

If you’re on a spherebox hosted site and have any issues with your WordPress installation, let me know..

A short break..

Apologies for the lack of updates as I have been busy with work, then with clearing/packing my stuff before moving out of my apartment, followed by the arrival of my parents and sister from KL who are here to attend my graduation ceremony which has given me the roles of tour guide and chauffeur.

I guess the drought of posts would continue till things settle down. Till then..

A cool looking screensaver

I’m not a big fan of screensavers as I have them disabled on every PC I use and instead have a 3 minute display timeout to standby mode if the display is a LCD monitor. But if you are and would like to have a cool looking one, try this.

2 of my workmates using Macbook Pros have that screensaver installed, but at the moment I’m quite happy with a blank black screen.. :D

Nintendo Wii

WiiThe Nintendo Wii was officially launched in Australia yesterday and my friend/workmate brought it in to work today for us to have a play with it. :D To be honest, I don’t really have a keen interest in consoles usually, but I am really impressed with the Wii after playing with it earlier in the afternoon. It was really, pure and simple fun. Their new controllers allow you to be immersed in the game where traditional controllers will fall short of.

Wii Tennis allowed just controls on hitting the ball such as spin, velocity and direction without having to worry about the positioning of the player which is done automatically. It was extremely easy to pick up and it was pretty fun playing against each other. Wii Boxing on the other hand gave quite a workout having to move about and flexing your arms to dodge and punch. If you think console gaming is something where you slouch on the sofa and twiddle with your thumbs, think again. ;)

I’ve only 1 gripe about the Wii which is the Wii-mote controller. It gets quite slippery if your palms get sweaty. It’s lacking grooves or some form of grip on the underside which would’ve helped greatly. The wrist strap needs to be tightened appropriately to prevent the controller to fly off your hand and into walls or expensive LCD TVs. There’s a Japanese safety manual out at the moment which you can have a look at here (and a parody version here ;)).

I’m quite sure this controller issues will be fixed pretty soon as companies such as Logitech would have Wii compatible controllers in the pipeline.

To anyone thinking of getting an Xbox 360 now or continue waiting on the overpriced PS3, you might want to consider the Wii instead. It may have inferior 3D graphics rendering compared to the other beefier consoles, but if you’re looking for entertainment, you can do no wrong by getting a Wii.

If only I didn’t have other gadgets which I want to get hold of.. :(

Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 review

Here‘s my second and final hardware review for this weekend. :)

MS logoNow the other piece of computer hardware which I got hold of recently is the Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000. Yes, I actually bought a M$ product. >:| I’ve procrastinated for months in getting a new keyboard even though the 2 year old Logitech standard keyboard keys have gotten really stiff requiring rather strong key beatings which probably weren’t kind to my wrist and fingers.
